Southeast DC native Stephon Shrives was found shot and killed in the 2600 block of Sheridan Road SE early on Saturday, June 17 by an unknown assailant, representing the 107th homicide in the District in 2023.

Following his death, friends and family have been rallying support, raising nearly $1,500 in just days through a fundraiser that was set up to offset funeral costs for the “beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, and cousin, who was shot and killed.”

“Stephon was a young, funny, kind, caring and very ambitious young man whose live was stolen that early morning,” his family said.

Any money raised through the GoFundMe campaign will be used to “lay him to rest properly” on Saturday, July 8.

“I have locked in a date for his going home service,” his family wrote. “(It) will be (an) even sadder day for me and my family.”
